About us

The Center for Public Administration and Local Government PALGO was established in Belgrade in 1998 as an independent, non-profit making non-governmental organization. It aims to advance and develop the capacities of state institutions and organizations, to assist in the adoption of European and other international standards, and to encourage the effective and functional decentralization of government. The PALGO center is also active in education, training, research, consultancy, and publishing in the fields of public administration, public policy, local government and information technology.

From the outset the Center has been defined and profiled as a ‘think tank’ and network of experts. In addition to the experts employed full time by the Center this network includes many other professionals from Serbia and abroad, active in various areas of public life. Also, PALGO Center is member of NISPAcee, GAIN, Freedom House, UNPAN and SEE PIN networks.

To date the PALGO Center has established productive partnerships with a large number of local and international organizations and institutions including the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Agency for Public Administration Development, the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities, the Faculty of Political Science, the Open Society Institute, the Local Government Initiative (LGI), the Fund for an Open Society Serbia (FOS), the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Development Alternatives, Inc. (DAI), the Serbia Local Government Reform Program, Freedom House, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deutche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, Consulting B.U.S. Dresden, the Center for Democracy Foundation, the European Movement in Serbia, Open University in Subotica, the Center for Policy Studies, G17PLUS, The Center for Development of Non-profit Sector and many others.
