Recycling Urban Land in Serbia (RULS) PALGO Center Brownfields are sites that: have been affected by the former uses of the site and surrounding land ; are derelict and underused ; may have real or perceived contamination problems ; are mainly in developed urban areas ; and require intervention to bring them back to beneficial use. Unsustainable land use, as a scarce and valuable resource, is a European problem. Through the project “Recycling Urban Land in Serbia”, PALGO Center will organize, with its German and Czech partners, a national seminar on brownfield topic. By preparing the brochures and books including Serbian case studies, PALGO Center together with the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities will help raise awareness of the decision makers on this developmental and town planning topic, also tightly related to environmental issues and economic revalorization of these areas. With the generous help of Serbian experts and professionals from CABERNET (Concerted Action on Brownfield and Economic Regeneration Network), brownfields will be brought to a wider public recognition, and explained to the representatives of the local self-government level. The project leader for RULS is ITDP Europe (Institute for Transportation and Development Policy Europe) while the financial support is given by RBF (Rockefeller Brothers Foundation) from New York. Project period: April 1st, 2007 to December 31st, 2007.
